From: William/Cheryl RobinsonSubject: Public Meeting Aug. 15th Adm. Bldg. for 2006 Bond Referendum Ladies and Gentlemen, The meeting for public input on the 2006 Bond Referendum has been set for August 15th, time yet to be determined but likely to be 6:30 or 7 pm; I would suggest being there early. This will likely be the only opportunity for the board to receive input from the public on the proposed items which can be found on the district website at www.lcisd.org and specifically includes the 4 secondary campus on 762 tentatively set to open in the fall of 2010 if this bond passes. The Southern portion of the district was challenged by several board members after the Board Workshop last night where they heard some adjustments to the bond and asked the architect and construction manager to review and come up with some more. The bond package is now down to $288,586,072. with the actual construction costs down to $53,629,000 on the new high school. The previously mentioned $82MM includes everything necessary to start classes; i.e. Furniture, Fixtures, Equipment, Text Books, Library Books, etc. This information was used to malign the board and bond committee that I served on erroneously in the newspaper by incorrectly comparing the $62MM in construction costs for the newest FBISD high school versus the $82MM turnkey cost of the proposed LCISD high school. The challenge by the board to the Southern portion of the district is to follow through with what we said when we made the major push to pick the 762 site and show up in force at this public meeting. I was told directly, that if we fail to show up in large numbers, there are board members who will take that as a sign that we will not follow through on our pledge to strongly support this bond prior to and at the election ballot boxes. They in turn would be hesitant to take the beating from some sectors of the public over the sheer size of this bond and might be forced to alter it significantly to cut costs. They do not want to do this; they want to do what is necessary for the district and do it in a quality manner but they must have as much public support as they can get from our area. Please pass this message on to your friends ... I cannot tell you how critical this is to show up for this meeting in huge numbers; don’t assume that others will show up and it is not necessary for you. The best thing that could happen is to literally line the street with cars as far as one can see and fill the parking lots to standing room only as well. Thank you in advance for attending. Site for school complex purchased! Nearly 140 acres near Greatwood have been slated for the development of a new LCISD school complex that will consist of a high school, junior high school and a middle school. The actual construction of the schools, located near Crabb river Road and FM 762, is scheduled for 2010 or 2011. Citizen's Advisory Committee formation Lamar Consolidated ISD is planning a bond referendum this November to fund the 8 new elementary campuses, one middle school and 2 high schools under consideration for construction over the next 10 years With current district growth at a rate of approx. 5% and a projected rate of 7%, the school projects will be a priority during the bond referendum. Residents interested in becoming members of the Advisory Committee should contact the principals of the schools at which they are volunteering or call the district office.
